How to Create Scars/Knife Wounds for Halloween using Makeup

Hey Beauties!

I thought I would do a post on how to make scars using things you could easily find in your local joke shop or costume shop.
I got most of the stuff I have for this from Tam Shepherds in Glasgow on Queen Street

What you will need is:

Ive used Grimas Derma Wax, Illamasqua Loose Powder in LP210, Blood, Oil, Grease Paints, Spatula

How did i do this??-
  • Apply the Wax to your skin carefully. Take a little vaseline or a tiny bit of oil ((WARNING!- don't use to much oil or you will destroy your work)) and blend the edges into the skin so you cant see its fak
  • Once it is all blended take a Cotton Round or Small Fluffy Brush and powder the wax this will take away any shine and make it matte also if you use tinted powder it will make it more Flesh like
  • Take your spatula and make an incision down the length of the scar, careful not to pull the wax up try to rough up the edges to make it seem more real
  • Take some cotton from the middle of the cotton round and place it in the lid of the wax, mix some Blood with the Cotton still the cotton is covered. Use tweezers to lift the covered cotton out and lay it into the scar, it should be the same length as the scar
  • Place some blood in the place it would drip out, let it drip from a more authentic look

Buchanan Street Zombie Photoshoot in Glasgow

We did a photoshoot last Saturday on the streets of Glasgow some of you might have saw us, we started at the top of Buchanan Street and worked out way down to get the best shots.
Its say to say we attracted a lot of attention, there were people crowding around stopping everywhere. One girl even screamed and ran away haha.

I thought i would just upload the video we did just to show you a little bit of behind the scenes before we show you the finished images.
Since its coming up to Halloween i thought i would show you how to create a Zombie, so if i have the time i will make a video for you guys!

To create this look all we really did was:

  • Use a base of Latex and Tissue Paper to build up and make it look like skin and tear it apart
  • Used Grease Paints to create the shading and colouring
  • Hair was done in a messy but structured fashion by the amazing people at Priory Salon in Bellshill
  • and then LOTS AND LOTS OF BLOOD!
Overall this took us quite a while to do it was 3 weeks in the planning then getting there and doing the makeup took a few hours but when we got going there was no stopping us!

Thanks to everyone who was involved who made it such a great shoot

Makeup Atelier Paris Waterproof Gel Eyeliner Review

Hey Beauties!
I thought it was about time i review one of my favourite products i've ever used when doing makeup. The Makeup Atelier Paris Waterproof Gel Liner has to be a staple in my kit, it's quite a weird texture its like a cream but its so unbelievably soft it almost reminds me of soft butter....if that makes sense.
Often i don't believe things when they say waterproof because nothing is waterproof only water resistant but this eyeliner blows every other eyeliner i have ever used out of the water for the simple fact its really hard to get off, it doesn't smudge it doesn't peel it doesn't rub off once it is on its on and its not coming off unless you use something like Estee Lauders Take it Away remover. To test how waterproof this was i went for a shower with it on my hand and it didn't even fade slightly.

These gel liners come in over 10 different shades ranging from Black to White, Purples, Blues basically a lot of different great colours, I was sent the colour Dark Brown which is an eyeliner i was missing in my kit before but since then when doing simple natural makeup this is all i will use. Another great thing about these is they can be used as waterproof bases for eyeshadow so say someone has really oily lids what i will do first is blot the lids with a blotting paper then apply a small amount of this eyeliner to the lids and blend it out once it sets its not going anywhere and i can build shadow on top the best thing about using this as a base is that it blends as well so you could just use this as an eyecolour on its own

1. I used the liner as a base and blended it out with a
synthetic brush
2.  I used it as a liner it creates amazing lines because the liner is
so soft it just glides instead of pulling
I did a photoshoot a while back with Model, Lucy Palmer in which she wanted natural shots for her agency then some more editorial glossy mag shots which i was all for, i created a natural minimal look then moved on to a more defined look with red lips.

As  you can see above the liner greats such a sharp solid line, there was no tugging or pulling and the liner lasted all day.
I would say this product is amazing for those of you who have trouble finding a liner that will last one your eyes, i really recommend this one because its so multipurpose being able to use it on the lids as a waterproof base, as an eyeliner to line the lid but also it can be used to line the waterline. I often find that liners don't stay on the waterline they are washed away within an hour or 2 but with this liner it stays on so much longer than a regular liner

The Makeup Atelier Paris Waterproof Gel Eyeliner can be found on Love-Makeup as well as the Makeup Atelier site They are £13 each for 5g of product whereas Bobbi Brown sells their gel liners for £17 and you only get 3g of product so not only are you getting a better product with Makeup Atelier you are getting more product for less.

What do you think of these gel liners?

Makeup Artist Tip: Colour Correcting

Hey Beauties!

I thought I would do a post on Colour Correcting today because a lot of my readers/followers have been asking how to get flawless skin and to me as a makeup artist I think Colour Correcting is a big thing for some people because it can entirely change your face.
Colour Correcting comes from the idea of canceling/neutralising colours by using colours that are opposite each other on the colour wheel.

If you had a lot of darkness under your eyes or if you had blue veins that show up on your skin you would use an orange because Orange is opposite Blue so they cancel each other out. Its the same with Redness if you have overly red skin you want to calm down then you would use a Green corrector as Green is opposite Red and will cancel each other out.
When correcting the idea is to cancel each other out, not to replace the Red with Green or Orange with Blue this can be the hard part. What i usually do is put down layers of the orange/green to neutralise the blue/red then leave it to "cook" and come back to it then apply a concealer over the top of it in a patting motion because if you swipe the concealer on it will mix with the corrector beneath and then powder it and you're set to go!

Products I usually use for this are:

1. Corrector on its own
2. Covered with Studio Finish Concealer and Powdered with Prep+Prime Loose
Powder
MAC Pure Orange Studio Finish Skin Corrector- I love this because it's so pigmented so it can work on any type of skin for really pale to really dark. I also love this for Drag as men tend to have really dark stubble on the cheeks and chin and this just takes the dark tones away from it and leaves with a gorgeous finish
I used this product on Model, Macoula Dembele and it looked amazing

If you can't find the Pure Orange corrector then Morange Lipstick by MAC or Flare by Illamasqua works just as well

For redness i will often use the Ten Image Green Corrector in CMP-110 which is really creamy so it doesn't cake up and slide everywhere its the perfect texture.
1. Ten Image Corrector in CMP-110
2.
Covered with Studio Finish Concealer and Powdered with Prep+Prime Loose
Powder
I think personally that colour correcting is a really great thing that can make your face look better if you know what you are doing
When applying this correctors I will use a MAC 195 and a Real Techniques Deluxe Crease Brush to set the corrector/concealer with Powder. Instead of sweaping the concealer on top of the corrector i find patting the concealer on works so much better as the colours dont blend then dabbing the powder into the concealer so you do not distrub your work

Have you tried Colour Correcting before?

Tom Ford Narcissist Blush Review

Hey Beauties!
I recently bought this gorgeous blush from Tom Ford its part of the new collection and I have to say i'm absolutely in love!

Narcissist is a bright hot pink blush with an iridescent finish which gives the most beautiful glow to the skin without looking shiny or glittery. This blush has to be one of the most pigmented blushes i have ever used on par with Illamasqua maybe even more pigmented i would say i prefer these blushes because the texture of them is just like nothing i've ever felt before its almost as smooth as silk and applies like a dream

As you can see you can apply it quite heavily and get a lot of colour almost too much but if you use a light hand you get this gorgeous pinky glow which i love! What i also love about Tom Ford is the packaging it's so sleek and sophisticated it's just so gorgeous too look at

Tom Ford Blush in Narcissist contains 8g of product for £45 as this is more of a Luxury product than anything but in my opinion it's totally worth it

I used this on a fashion show last night on one of the designers who wanted their makeup done and it turned out so nice i had only used this once before but i found that it lasted a long time even under the stresses of a fashion show

This is Hayley and her brand name is called Popular which is so cool, i love the things she makes they are gorgeous you can find her page here ((give her a like hehe))

What do you think of this blush?

Electrical Tape Dress Shoot with Model Shannen Allison from The Model Hub

Hey Guys!
I recently did this shoot with model Shannen Allison, she is one of the best i've worked with she can pull of such a variety of different looks but the look we did in this shoot has to be one of my favourite looks i've done.

We started off in a studio doing some basic headshots just some normal stuff once i had done the makeup
Photography by Les Johnstone
We also had the idea of making a dress out of electrical tape because we didn't have any clothing sourced because of complications with the person supplying clothes so we just made a dress

Photography by Les Johnstone
I have to admit i was quite surprised as to how well this worked out it looked amazing and i was really impressed. We had the idea to take it one step further and go out onto the streets of Glasgow on a saturday and shoot with everyone around us something i hadn't really seen in Glasgow before

Cheek Products Used in My Kit

Hey Beauties!

So I was asked on Twitter what products I use for Cheeks in my kit so I thought i'd show you guys what products I generally use while on shoots or with Clients.

When i'm working on Shoots/Clients I will use a range of different things but i will always carry a few things that never change some are things I keep adding when I run out and some are new additions. I will often work from a palette like my MAC Pro Palette above which has 6 colours that i love, Harmony is the best Contour colour i have ever used in a powder format
I love using Illamasqua Cream pigment in Hollow for Contouring on lighter skin tones as it looks just like a shadow but you have to be careful because if you use too much it can get muddy looking.

Right now im having a big thing for using creams, i feel they give the skin such a nice finish rather than having to much powder on the face the ones i love using are:

  • MAC Pro Sculpting Cream in Pure Sculpture- This is a great colour for contouring on people from Medium plus skin tones because it is quite dark in the pan but once you buff and work it in it looks fine not to mention it doesn't have too much red orange tones so it won't look fake on you
  • Hollow from Illamasqua
  • Revlon  Photoready Cream Blush- Perfect texture its really blendable and lasts a long time
  • Topshop Cream Blush- Not something i use all that often but i do love the colour and texture
  • Illamasqua Cream Blush in Lies- One of my favourite Highlighters for the cheekbones also a really gorgeous blush for people will super pale skin

I dont alway use creams sometimes depending on the skin of the person i'm working on i will use powders i feel powders work and look better on those with Oily skin because adding too much creams can just make the makeup look shiny and wear off easily.
Right now i'm loving-

  • Laura Mercier Shimmer Bloc
  • NARS Albatross
  • Tom Ford Narcissist
I find keeping a range of colours for different skin tones as well as skin types works really well actually thinking about a persons skin type when applying makeup can make a world of difference if they are really oily don't apply a ton of creams because the fact is they won't last or applying to many powder products to someone who has really dry skin or is a mature person, you just have to know what flatters what kind of person and skin type/tone

What do you use/like the most?
Powder or Cream?
