INAA & Scottish Hair and Beauty Awards

Hey Beauties!!

Last night i attended an event that i was invited to by the people at INAA Hair and Beauty Awards and Alison Jameson Consultants which was such a fun night. It was held in 29 Private Members Club in the Royal Exchange Square.
At the start of the night we went into this gorgeous large room which was filled with seats and not to mention lots of drink hah, it
The owner of INAA gave a talk about what she does and how social media is changing our very world. I love the name INAA, it stands for "I need an appointment" its such a clever catchy thing as its a website where salons can register and people can book online to the salon any salon which is free i think its a great idea because today everything is done online everyones online! As a makeup artist i totally love it because it gives me a chance to get out there more as well but im not sure if freelance can join up if they cant i'd love to see that implemented one day. Its so important for everyone to just treat themselves once in awhile i know with everything going on right now its hard to spare money but its worth it you need to make time for yourself to have some fun and relax or get your makeup done!
I think in Scotland we aren't that big on this because we feel like we don't deserve it almost i think but i think we do and we should all totally go for it everyone deserves a bit of pampering.

After the talk we went into the big room and got champagne and wine and had a look at what the different brands had to offer, Lauren Goodger, BareMinerals, Bumble and Bumble and GHD all came along to show us what they had to offer i think its really refreshing to see brands coming up to Scotland to show us things because as you all know everything is in London and thats great if you can get there but most of us can't

It was such a great night networking and seeing other bloggers i had such a great time! Everyone should totally check out inaa.com if you are ever in need of an Hair or Beauty Appointment because its such a great tool that can save a lot of hassle when trying to find the right salon for you

I just wanted to say a big thank you to Alison Jameson Consultants for the invite to the event and to INAA for holding such a great event i think i speak for bloggers in scotland when i say thanks for bringing brands up to scotland because it really does help
If you want to see the rest of the images i took from the event visit my facebook page by clicking here

Spring/Summer Trends 2013 Part 2- The 60's

Hey Beauties!
This is the second part to my Spring/Summer Trend posts and this one is about the 60's inspired makeup that we have been seeing all over the catwalk on shows from Michael Kors, Chanel who opted for a more futuristic look with thick liner and the metallic silver shadow which can be recreated with Illamasqua Liquid Metal in Phenomena, a molten silver, I also love the look that Pat McGrath did for Guido Palau, it was a glossy peachy lid with lots of mascara and soft pink lips also everyone knows how much i love Cara Delevingne she was sporting a very classic 60's look for the Marc Jacobs show, the strong brows and contoured liner in the socket which i think looks really great i'm not too keen on the pale lips though but that was what was there.

When we talk about fashion you don't need to do things straight from the catwalk you can take things little inspiration bits and put them to work in your daily life, for example stronger brows or the 60's flick with your liner try using different colours that way you are taking the idea from the Neons which was a hit this S/S and use it in a liner its just all about taking things from the past and making them more modern.
One thing you can take from SS13 is that Dewy/Illuminated skin is really in right now, you can get these looks from using things like MAC Strobe Cream mixed in with your foundation or even apply it first, Illamasqua Gleam to give you that dewy highlighted look, Benefit highbeam is another great product for this or if you want something a little less in your face you could use Daniel Sandler Watercolour Blush in Icing which is a gorgeous pink icing type colour its gorgeous because it looks so natural and light from within

Daniel Sandler gave me his suggestions on what he liked this season he loves the really bright neon eyes which can be found in the shows of Dior, Donna Karan, Michael Kors or the Graphic eyeliner that was used in the Moschino show

What are your favorite things from this season?
What interests you the most?

How to get the Perfect Base

Hey Beauties!

I thought i would do a post on how to get the perfect base today a little break from tons of reviews. I think the base is so important to your overall makeup because you have to lay the foundations to make everything else look good.
When people talk about base its usually just foundation and concealer but i think Base is so much more than just that i think it incorporates a lot of different things to ive a final pulled together well done look

First of all you need to prep the skin, use prep products that are going to be good for your skin i have dry skin so i tend to use primers/moisturisers that give hydration and help to keep my face moisturized through the day. I think the Kiehl's Ultra Facial Moisturiser is a great moisturiser for all skin types as it is a favourite of makeup artists around the world it delivers hydration really well  Daniel Sandler Retexturizing Primer is a great all round primer that anyone can use regardless of skin type or age.

Now on to your foundation you want something that is going to work for you. You don't always have to go for the full coverage foundation because remember sometimes less is more literally if you use say a medium coverage foundation it makes it so the good parts of skin can still be seen and glow through but you can use a higher coverage concealer on the parts you want to cover and still look relatively natural without having a full face of maximum coverage foundation. I really like using the Laura Mercier Secret Camouflage as it gives really high coverage but doesn't look cakey on blemishes and lately i find myself using the Makeup Atelier Concealer Palette more as well as they have a more creamy texture but really good coverage.
Skin Base Foundation by Illamasqua is one of the best medium coverage foundations as it gives you this gorgeous glow that everyone is after while covering and evening out the skin tone without looking cakey or made up

Covering up dark circles and brightening up the eye area can make a world of difference, I like to use the pink/peach tone in the Makeup Atelier Concealer Palette it helps to actually brighten up the eye area and conceal without highlighting the problem usually on darker skin tones i will use an orange based corrector which works just as well, apply a little powder under the eye what i usually do is wait for the concealer to "cook" under the eyes before powdering that way if it creases i can fix it before powdering.

This is where a lot of people think different to what i do, i like to think that its not just foundation and concealer that makes the base but things like a bit of bronzer to warm up the face if you need to use it because in the end, everything ties together to get your end look

Ive included a bit of blush in this because usually when you're doing the base products i like to blend blush over foundation then apply more foundation over the blush that way you get that really natural colour coming from the skin so it looks as if it were a real blush

When i think base i think everything i can do to correct or change rather than adding something to make it look like makeup so Primers, Moisturising, Foundation, Concealing and correcting, using bronzers to warm up everything and  contouring to give cheekbones and adding a bit of blush for a flushed look, these are the things you are doing to change the face. Things like lips and eyes etc those are the things that you deliberately change to make it look like there is something there unless you are doing a natural look

Sometimes you really just need to think outside the box and experiment and just do what works for you because thats how we figure out things

I hope this post made sense to you all haha

Illamasqua Liquid Metal Palette Review

Hey Beauties!
Illamasqua Liquid Metals are unlike anything on the market, they were one of the first to bring out good metallic, pigmented creams in 2009 but since then everyone has brought out their own version. I really like the liquid metals because they give great texture and pigmentation.

Colour and Pigmentation

These liquid metals really are quite pigmented and each has such a gorgeous colour. Enrapture is a rusty bronze colour, Illamasqua describes it as a "Molten Bronze" then we have Surge which is a deeper silver with glittery particles in it, Illamasqua describes it as a "Molten Pewter", The 3rd colour is called Phenomena which i would say is a true silver and this colour in particular is really pigmented, Illamasqua describes it as a "Molten Silver" and lastly we have Electrum which is an antique gold colour this is more of a yellow based gold than anything.

In the picture above i used Enrapture with a bit of Makeup Atelier glitter on to to give you an idea of the different textures you can make with this product

Wear Time

This is maybe the only thing that will put them off this product, this product isnt going to last there are no 2 ways around that its so creamy and emollient it won't last, they dont set either. David Horne who is Director of Product Development at Illamasqua said that these are an artistic product they not meant to be used as bases or for everyday use. I think personally these are amazing but for the reasons that they are great on photoshoots as the makeup doesn't need to last it just needs to be touched up when it needs it so from a makeup artist perspective these are great products but maybe not for everyday use on yourself

Packaging

I love Illamasqua's packaging it all retains that great shape with the logo on the top and a handy mirror inside, i think thats one of the things i love about Illamasqua the continuity the shape of the packaging is like their shape and its across the entire range be it the liquid metals to the foundations and nail polishes etc.

Price and Where to Buy

You can purchase the Liquid Metal Palette from Illamasqua.com as well as from any counter or stand alone store, You can also buy each of the Liquid Metals seperately rather than buying the whole palette if you find you like one more than the others.
The Palette is £34 and if you wanted to buy them separately they are £17.50 each

The Good and The Bad

The Good?- They are extremely pigmented as all Illamasqua products are and they are quite unique.
The Bad?- I wish they had versions of these products that set rather than stayed as a cream.

What is your favourite Liquid Metal?
What do you think of them?

Academy of Makeup- Intro to Hair

Hey Beauties!

So this is a bit different today but i wanted to talk about a course i did at the Academy of Makeup in Glasgow which is ran by Sara Hill and the other tutors who do an amazing job there!
As i said i went to do the Intro to Hair course which was taken by Karen McDougall who is one of the UK's top session stylists and colourists she is just simply amazing and her teaching techniques are the best i have seen.

Me and 2 other people where at the Academy for 2 days for an intense course on hair and i actually can't believe how much i actually learnt in those 2 days. We talked about different things like head mapping and styles and products and different brushes etc. Its safe to say it was quite intense but i loved every minute of it, i did things i didn't even think i could do!

I managed to do all of these hairstyles in 2 days and taking in mind i had never touched hair before

If anyone is ever thinking about doing a course at the Academy i really recommend it, i had such a great time it was fun to learn new stuff and it didnt feel like a school/college environment it was actually really enjoyable i didnt want to leave haha

If you really do want to study at the academy of makeup you can click here to visit their site

What is your favourite hairstyle?

Makeup Atelier Paris Corrector Concealer Palette Review

Hey Beauties!
I recently got this palette from Makeup Atelier and as you know you if you're a regular reader i love Makeup Atelier everything i have tried from them has been fantastic.

Pigmentation/Colour

I love this palette because the consistency of the concealers are really creamy the first colour is quite a peach/salmon tone which would be good for under eye concealing because its the creamiest of the palette it would counteract darkness and brighten up the eye area. The rest of the colours are your concealers i would think as they have a thicker texture but still quite creamy they work really well to cover up any blemishes or pigmentation you might not like, Im quite impressed at how well they cover without looking cakey or made up. The last colour in the palette is a green corrector which is used to counteract any redness you might have in your skin what i would usually do is apply the cream, pat and blend it in then apply some of your skin tone concealer on top in a dabbing motion with a sponge as not to disturb your work underneath

Wear Time

These actually last for a pretty long time, i've set them with a Chantecaille HD pressed powder most of the time and i've gotten 6/7 hours wear out of these concealers/correctors i don't know why they last so long but i really like that they do it must have something to do with an ingredient in it

Packaging

The packaging of these concealers are really great because they come in a palette and i find not enough good quality concealers come in palette form as you have a lot of different colours to mix and match and also to use on their own. They come in a long rectangular shaped case with the edges rounded off which i think looks like a really cool shape as i haven't seen anything else like it on the market right now.

Price and Where to Buy

You can purchase the Makeup Atelier Paris Corrector Concealer Palette from either MakeupAtelierParis.co.uk or from Love-Makeup.co.uk. They are £25 for a palette of 5 concealers/correctors containing 10g of product

The Good and The Bad

The Good?- 5 concealers in a handy palette that work amazingly, need i say more haha
The Bad?- I dont think they would last as long on Oily skin but its not really a bad feature
you could just use some silicone based powder to set like
 MAC Prep+Prime

What do you think of this palette?
What is your favourite concealer?

Billion Dollar Brows Review

Hey Beauties!
I think brows are a really important feature to your face they bring structure, they can lift your entire face and they can also be your defining feature just think about Cara Delevingne and her full brows thats what shes known for!
I am going to be reviewing some products from Billion Dollar Brows. Ive been talking to them for a while now and i can safely say i think they are a great company and the best part? you're never too far away from a Billion Dollar Brows Salon, as you know i live in Scotland i'm so happy that they have a Salon in Glasgow!

Colour and Pigmentation

I dont think that pigmentation is a thing you have to worry with brow products but i kind of do like a brow product to be pigmented because that way you can go heavy or really light, the Universal Brow Pencil is quite pigmented depending on the amount of pressure you apply its great for everyone as the name suggests use lighter strokes for people with really light brows or add more pressure for a darker brow. I like the brow powder in Raven as it is quite pigmented and both products are quite ashy which is fantastic for brows because if you add any sort of warm tone then they will look really fake!

Raven Brow Powder

Universal brow Pencil

Wear Time
These last quite a long time as they are more of a brow powder than eyeshadow, if you set them with some brow gel you will find they last a whole lot longer. The Brow Pencil will last quite a long time as its quite waxy so it will fix the hairs as well as add some colour

Packaging

The packaging is not that different to everything else on the market today, I do like the packaging but its nothing new or different. I like the fact that the brow pencil comes with a little brow spoolie on the end so you can brush through your brows to soften the pencil

Price and Where to Buy
You can buy Billion Dollar Brows products at www.keriehoyshop.com/ The Universal Brow Pencil retails for £17 and the Brow Powder is £18

The Good and The Bad

The Good?- I really like the brow pencil it has a great texture and pigment
The Bad?- Its not really bad but i wish it came in other colours as well

What do you think of Billion Dollar Brows?
Have you tried it before?

Benefit Cosmetics Sugarlicious Kit Review

Hey Beauties!
I got this awesome kit when i was at the Benefit Fakeup Event a while back, Its such a good little kit for those of you who want an all in one!

Colour and Pigmentation

I think the pigment in this kit is quite good apart from the Blush (Sugar Bomb) i dont really like as it as it doesnt have much pigment its just a shimmery colour with a bit of orangey colour. Everyone knows about Highbeam, a great highlighter with a pink undertone and Benetint, a rosey cheek and lip tint that smells of roses.
The lipgloss was made like the blush version of Sugarbomb this is what i really like! its really nice its shimmery and nudey and just gorgeous. I think this is probably the least sticky lipgloss ive ever tried it just seems like a gel texture.

Wear Time
Benetint and highbeam last quite a long time as benetint is a stain so it lasts really long and the Highbeam is a product that sets so it will last quite long. Sugarbomb blush doesnt last that long i found it lasted about 2 hours at most. The Sugarbomb lipgloss lasts just as long as your average lipgloss.

Packaging
Im such a sucker for good packaging and i have to say i love this! Its a thick cardboard box that contains makeup instructions and quite a large mirror which is great for when you are applying the makeup. Once you are done with the makeup and have used it up you can remove the insert and you have a little box to keep things in which is great as you could keep anything in it like jewelry or something like that.

Price and Where to Buy
You can buy the Sugarlicious Kit from benefitcosmetics.co.uk online or from Benefit counters. Sugarlicious retails for £25.50 for 4 products.

The Good and The Bad

The Good?- Everything is in a little box so its really convenient and i love the lipgloss
The Bad?- I wish the blush was a little more pigmented and a bit less shimmery

What do you think of the Benefit Kits?
What is your favourite?

Daniel Sandler Cosmetics Scandal at Midnight Palette Review

Hey Beauties!
We all have that one palette we always go back to because we love the colours and for the past few weeks ive been using nothing but this gorgeous palette by Daniel Sandler.

Colour/Pigmentation

The Scandal at Midnight Palette is a pigmented palette containing 4 different shades of eyeshadow  Desire- which is a intensely pigmented matte black, Pure- a gorgeous white colour which a sheen to it, Dream- which is a glittery silvery i think that would be best used foiled and finally a semi-matte taupe shade called Wicked shade. The only way you could really describe the shadows texture is buttery it feels really creamy yet applies as a powder they blend like a dream  and can also be foiled (you can apply them wet to get more intense pigment and sheen)

Click the image to enlarge

Click the image to enlarge

Wear Time
These eyeshadows have a really great wear time, i wore them for a drag night last week and they lasted 6,7 hours and they didn't even crease at all they were as vibrant and non-creased as they were when i first applied them

Packaging
I love the packaging just because it looks really sleek and pretty the eyeshadows come in a quad palette with the Daniel Sandler logo on the front with the matte golden cover. The one thing i do like about this palette is the packaging is really sturdy which is always a great thing if you are carrying about your products in your bag

Click the image to enlarge

Price and Where to buy

You can purchase the Scandal at Midnight Palette from Danielsandler.com or from Escentual. The palettes retail for £28 for 8.7g of product.

The Good and The Bad

The Good?- They are really pigmented and long lasting!
The Bad?- I can't think of anything bad apart from i wish the silver was more pigmented

Favourites of the Month- March

Hey Beauties!
I thought i would do my favourites because i have found some great things this month!

I love Fakeup by Benefit*, right now it has to be one of my favorite concealers that i'm using just for the fact its so long lasting and hydrating it looks great on people with dry skin as the apple seed extract and vitamin E help to hydrate the skin while covering everything
-Full Review Here-

Illamasqua Blush Duo's are really handy and really great colours. I got Katie and Ambition they are both amazing colours, Katie is a soft candy pink which looks really pretty on paler skin tones and Ambition just adds such a gorgeous sheen to the cheeks it isnt as brick red in the palette more of a deep pink tone almost a burnt pink
-Full Review Here-

Bobbi Brown Natural Brow Shaper is a great product for those of you who dont want to define your brows with powder or pencil, the tinted gel just gives the brows a hint of colour it gives the brows a more structured filled in look without looking made up

I dont often feature Skin Care items mostly makeup but this one needed to be a favourite of the month, Cicaplast B5 Baume by La Roche Posay* is a holy grail product for those of you who want a "does everything" product this fabulous little thing does literally everything from chapped lips, heating sensation, sunburn, dryness, nappy rash, grazes and eczema. I use it mostly because i have dry skin so this works wonders on the dry skin!
-Full Review Here-

My last favourite is the Ardell Demi Wispies Lashes they are a fantastic product for those of you who want thicker lashes but dont want them to scream "Drag Queen!" They are really flirty and winged out at the ends to give that really "Wispy" look
