How to: Dark Lips (Using Cyber from MAC)

Hey Beauties!
I have been asked a lot how to do dark lips on people because as its winter the deep lip trend is all the rage from Deep Berries to Deep Reds and if you want to go this far Cyber, which is a deep grape with a reddish undertone (Satin Finish)

MAC Cyber Lipstick and Nightmoth Lipliner

When darker lips I tend to use a lip liner more as you want everything to be perfect as it is a really stand out out colour that people will see.
Below ill give you a few steps to take to get the dark lip look perfect

  • I will often use a concealer or foundation I used and take it over the lips.
  • Line the lips with your lip liner and fill in the edges of the lips to create dimension
  • Usually when doing dark lips i will over draw slightly as darker colours can make the lips look thinner
  • Apply the lipstick to the lips using a lip brush it will be more precise
  • Applying a little bit of power around the lips will prevent feathering as it will be even more noticeable as its dark lips
I think dark lips can look amazing but you do need the confidence to pull it off as it its right in your face.
If you want to see what this looks like when its on I added an image below from a shoot i did with Nuala Swan

Have you ever done dark lips before?
What's your favourite brand for Dark Lips?

The Pokey Hat Fashion Show- Jeffrey Campbell Launch

Hey Beauties,
I was invited to The Pokey Hat Fashion Show on tuesday and had such an amazing time, I sat in the front row and watched the amazing models on the catwalk wearing fabulous clothes and the stunning Jeffrey Campbell shoes. The Pokey Hat wasn't the only there, their were other designers such as Stay Sick, Once Upon a Time and Claudette who all showed their amazing collections

The Pokey Hat are: "an online store for fashion-forward girls, from all over the globe, who share a passion for creating an individual look! The Pokey Hat's collections of modern and vintage clothing, shoes and accessories have quickly become an international favourite."

Some of the things i saw at that fashion show were just amazing, there was this one dress that was vertical striped Black and White, long and just wow. Not to mention the makeup which to me was a big part being a makeup artist myself i was pleased with what i saw, everything was totally flawless and on trend the classic Red lips and a soft smokey eye which really worked with with the clothes

What i really loved about this show was the shoes, ive been obsessed with Jeffrey Campbell shoes and i totally want to own a pair haha i love the wedge/platform shoes they are just to die for!

I got a few clips of video from the show to let you guys see what happened and what it was like

The creator of The Pokey Hat, Jennifer Welford did an amazing job with this show along with her PR girls, the models, the MUA's and Hair Stylists a great show all round

Lasting Finish Matte by Kate Moss for Rimmel Review

I think that it quite hard to find a good matte lipstick in a drugstore just because they have to be the right texture and formulation because if they arnt then they are all drying and they leave horrible a horrible outline around your mouth when they wear off but with the Kate Moss lipsticks that isnt the case.
I remember when I got the first line of the lipsticks, they were actually amazing so pigmented long lasting and the formula was great so I was keen to try out the new Matte Lipsticks in red packaging rather than the previous black bullet

I got the colours 107- Wine110- Coral and 113-Nude

The texture of these is velvety which i think its great for something from the drug store because often Matte lipsticks can be quite drying but these work really well but I would suggest using a lip balm first to make sure your lips are perfect before applying.

I really like the deep wine red and the coral but im not to keen on the nude colour im not to sure why but it doesn't look like a very nice colour to be honest. I used 107 in a drag look i did recently which turned out well. I like the fact that these lipsticks offer an opaque layer of cover rather than having to build up.

The Lasting Finish Matte by Kate Moss for Rimmel are available from Boots, Superdrug etc and are £5.49 in the UK

What do you think of Matte lipsticks?
Have you tried the first line of Kate Moss Lipsticks?

Daniel Sandler Watercolour Blush in Icing

Hey Beauties!

I recently got a new Watercolour Blush by Daniel Sandler, these are an amazing product. This time i got the colour "icing" which is a gorgeous pink highlighter which blends amazing into the skin.

These blushes have such a weird consistency because they are basically a liquid blush which to me is quite weird but I think they are one of the best products for creating a natural blush without creating that "I look like a clown" look.
I love the packaging its quite artistic as The Sunday Girl said and i totally agree its kind of like something a makeup artist could carry about it reminds me off Airbrush makeup to be honest, its true what they say good things come in small packages

These blushes are really pigmented though the fact they are liquid means nothing on pigment, personally I like the fact you can use a tiny bit for a little blush or build up on what you've already put down. These are water resistant and they wont rub off either because I find that they stain so its more of a stain than an normal blush which is great because blush fades but this doesn't not until you take it off at the end of the day

As you can see above I had to take a picture with flash just to show you, this is a heavy application this was just to show what it looked like. I really love this because it gives such a dewy/natural glow to the skin which just brightens everything up it looks perfect on the tops of the cheek bones and down the nose and above the cupids bow to accentuate the lips. Usually to apply this blush you could use your fingers and blend it as you would a cream blush or you could use the "Waterbrush" which was specially made for this blush Check out my review of this here

I used this recently on a shoot I did with Shannen Allison at the Radisson Blu

Winter Makeup Trends 2012

Hey Beauties!

So I thought i would do a post on Makeup Trends as its getting closer and closer to being winter if it isnt already....i dunno haha.

Red Lips- They are massive this season seen in the shows of Lavin, Gucci, Donna Karan, Marc by Marc Jacobs. They were seen in all different shades like Orange reds all the way to deep wine reds

Liner Flicks-  Ive seen a lot in the way of extending liner this season and i think it is a great way to elongate eyes or even just to draw some attention to the eyes such a classic almost 50's look. When doing liner i love using a gel liner for that sharp angular line but just for abit of definition to the lashes a Kohl Pencil works fine.

Fresh Skin- I love this one because its skin that looks fresh but with a bit of coverage almost a no makeup makeup but usually paired with a nude eye and red lip which is different but goes well together. Usually with Fresh skin i like to use Skin Base by Illamasqua as it gives quite a gorgeous fresh natural finish

Contouring-  I love that this is a big thing this season because im so obsessed because I think contouring can make the face look amazing and dimentional, usually when contouring a grey/block brown is best for contouring as it creates the idea of a shadow rather than using something like a bronzer which is red based and will make the sculpting look fake.

Big Brows- I think big brows can look great on some people but sometimes it can look a bit caterpillar i think the best way to make your brows bigger is to just let them grow but get them shaped and tided up
i have been doing that lately and i think it looks great because as we say your brows frame your face and can make such a difference to a look

Model-  Debay De Lux
Photographer- Lauren Stirling
Some of these trends were used in Nightwalk AW2012 that took place this week!
Red Lips/Liner Flicks and Strong Cheeks

What do you think of this seasons trends??
Do you have a favourite?

CHANEL Rouge Allure Lipstick- Insouciante Review

Hey Beauties!
I thought I would do  a review on an awesome lipstick I bought from Chanel a few weeks ago. The Rouge Allure line are just amazing, i love the texture and the pigment not to mention how they are packaged just screams luxury.

Insouciante is a pinky beige nude which looks quite like a biscuit colour almost its not Matte but has a slight sheen to it so it makes the lips look great, I think its a really great colour for those of you who want nude lips without being the beige coloured concealer lips if you know what im talking about.

When used with Le Crayon Lèvres in 34 Natural you get the most gorgeous lip colour, make sure to blend your liner into your lips so you don't get that awful 90's lip

The colour doesn't look like this when on the lips remember the lips are a different colour to your hand

If there was one thing i didn't like about this lipstick is that  the full pigment doesn't stay it isn't a long wearing formula but if you apply and blot then apply again you should get a good lasting colour

The Rouge Allure range come in at £25 for 3.4 g of product and is available from all Chanel Counters

What do you think of the Rouge Allure Range?
Have you tried Chanel Lipsticks?

Preview: Radisson Blu Photoshoot with Model, Shannen Allison

Hey Beauties!
I said i would come back when I had one of the images of Shannen when I did my post about Camille. I have to say i love this image so much its probably one of my favourite images i've done so far

You won't think this but i used Feisty Medium Pencil and Daemon Eyeshadow from Illamasqua to create a smokey red/black eye  and a bright red lip using the same Medium pencil with a mix of Box and Sangers Lipstick which I think turned out really great!

If you want to find/hire any of the team then check out-
