Cat's Corner- 10 Tips and Tricks!

Some hints and tips that I think are very crucial and very handy for ANYONE who is interested in modelling, or to any models no matter their experience levels.

This is just things that i have picked up on over the past few years myself..and in no particular order -

1. Learn to do your own make up. Make up artists are fantastic....and usually do get the best results when using a make up artist. but sometimes you can be asked to go to a photoshoot where there is no make up artist, the make up artist may fall ill and unable to attend the photoshoot. Have a basic set of brushes, buy make up that you don't wear on day to day basis and keep that separate from make up you would use for photoshoots. when you are not doing anything, practise lots of different looks and styles of make up so you are confident to do this when/if required.
2. practise what poses are good for you! look through magazines, use a mirror to do these poses then make them your own. Practise your facial expressions. they don't always have to be smiley, or moody. sometimes the stranger you feel about a pose, the better it can look. Also keep poses simple in the first 15 mins or so of a shoot. this means you get the feel of how a photographer works & your a bit more relaxed.

3. Always take change of underwear with you to a shoot. take a bra that is strapless, or is a multi-way. Three colour of underwear black, white & nude. Make sure they are not tight and leave marks on you. if you wear a bra to a photoshoot and you are doing beauty/headshots and you have marks on your shoulder from your bra, it is more work for the photographer AFTER the photoshoot in editing.

4. Take with you your make up kit (brushes, foundation, mascara, lipgloss and powder are the best to take with you...take eyeshadows, blusher/bronzer if you have the room also), Straighteners, brush, curling tongs, hair bands, bobbles and kirby grips. It is always better to be safe with packing with you what you can. rather than not taking anything for hair and make up!

5. keep communication with the client/photographer! This is the MOST important thing you can do. have all contact details with you before you leave your house. communication prior to the photoshoot is essential so that everyone involved is aware of what is happening on the day of the photoshoot. if you turn up with nothing with you, and there is no make up artist, hair stylist, clothing stylist...what will you do then?! Email/txt/call the client/photographer the night before the shoot just to double check that everything is still all ok for the photoshoot the next day, confirming the times, place of meeting and the photoshoot itself.

6. Make sure your mobile phone is fully charged!! Even take your phone charger with you!! Keep your phone switched on until you arrive at your photoshoot. this is so you can keep communication with the client/photographer open, and if there is a delay or you arrive early you can let them know and vice versa!

7. Take good care of your body. Have a healthy diet, regular exercise and look after your skin! Have a good skin cleaning regime, moisturise your skin twice a day.

8. Always be nice! It may sound daft...but be nice to the people you are working with!! if you are bitchy on set, and have a bad attitude, the people around you wont like it...they may tell you to leave, they may not be too bothered about the shoot and also tell other people not to work with you. If you are nice and pleasant, they will like working with you, maybe work with you more than just the once and also tell people they should work with you and pass on your details. It is common sense really!

9. When you receive your images, always credit the people you worked with for that image. Never photoshop/edit that image, unless the photographer has said you can. but 9 times out of 10 the photographer will not of given you rights to change/alter that image in anyway. The image belongs to the photographer/client. Yes it is your face/body in the image...but that does NOT mean that you can alter it. if you are not happy with the image, speak to the photographer politely.

10. Have fun!!!! it may sound daft...but if your not having fun and enjoying yourself..don't bother!! The passion of modelling comes within and it shows in the images. if you are bored, it will show! no one will want to look at images where you look bored! (unless that is the concept of the shoot :P )

Ok so there is 10 hints and tips for now! I am sure there is plenty more!! I may come back to this later on with more hints and tips! If you have any questions or want to say something..just leave a comment!! :)

Guerlain Terracotta "Sun in the City" Illuminating Powder

Hey Beauties,
Sorry i haven't blogged in awhile i'm actually having problems with my computer.....it broke haha

Recently I had a got some money to spend so i went to Guerlain because i had always wanted to try something from them. I was planning on getting Meteorites or Terracotta Bronzer but I came across this gorgeous illuminating powder which was special edition. Its called the  Terracotta "Sun in the City" and its a gorgeous golden colour that reminds me of the Estee Lauder Illuminating Powder Gelee.

The Guerlain Terracotta "Sun in the City" Illuminating Powder has such a soft texture to it and blends like a dream but that isnt the best part, I love the packaging beyond anything I have ever seen before

I just think that the thought and the actual craftsmanship that goes into creating one of these is amazing, the patterns and the texture. Its simply amazing!
When using the product you get the most gorgeous true gold colour not this fake yellow gold colour but a true rich gold colour. It is meant to me a highlighter for your face but this would make an amazing eye colour as well if you blended it with other colours you would get an amazing summery look. There might be one bad thing to it though if you arnt used to or dont like fragrances this may not be for you because it is so heavily scented but i really like the scent because it feels quite classy and sophisticated

You only need a small amount for a big impact with this product as it looks natural but you can make yourself a gold glitter bomb haha. The Pigmentation is quite impressive because you wouldn't think it to be. I would say it does last quite long but not if you touch your face a lot although as Christine from Temptalia said in her review  "When I wore this, it lasted for seven hours with noticeable (but not disastrous) fading by the eighth hour" I think this would look even more amazing on people with darker skin because it would give such a gorgeous glow to the skin

"This is a heavy watch of the product"
Product up close

As you can see above the swatch shows that it is pigmented and looks gorgeous on the skin. I would say rather than the product being overly glittery its more of a sheen like a shimmer than a glitter.

Overall the Guerlain Terracotta "Sun in the City" Illuminating Powder contains 15g of product for £43 or $70 USD and is available from Guerlain Counters or online at House of Fraser in the UK

Creative's Series- So what's it like to be a model in the real world?

Hey Beauties <3 so this post will be about what its actually like to be a model in the real world, the lovely Cat Rennie will be telling you all

http://www.burfly.co.uk/

The contact has been made. The brief is received along with possible picture references. This is where the photoshoot starts! It isn’t in a studio, or out on location like most people think. It is when you get booked, either through an agency that you are signed with, or a casting call of some type as a freelance model. So what is it like to be a Model? It's very hard work! You have to look after yourself, keep in the loop of fashion world, buy/read magazines like Vogue, Elle, i-D and many many more. Why? Because you can get ideas for how to pose, how to use your body and face to tell a story in a photograph. Practise in front of a mirror, know what works best for yourself. Even have a little fun “photoshoot” session with a friend..know what will look good on camera as well as in the mirror. Being on a studio photoshoot and a location photoshoot, what is the difference? Well, you are doing the same as you would on location as you would in studio, but with a location photoshoot you have the environment to think about. Weather, what structures are around you, can you use these to help with poses, for example sitting on a park bench, leaning up against a brick wall etc. In a studio, you may have props, like a chair, or a table, so you have to think what can I do with these that fit within this brief I have been given?

Stu Glen Photographer- Facebook
So on set..what is it actually like?! It's hard work! A lot of people do think you have to just sit there and that it's easy, but it is much much more than that. For example...a beauty photoshoot in a studio...The make up artist has to make sure that every little thing is perfect, a beauty shoot is close up of the face, so there is no room for mistakes (for both make up artist and model). Once make up/hair is done..it's time to get in front of the camera! The heat of the lights, the possible boxed in feeling with the photographer in front of you, lights and reflectors around you..it can get really hot!! I always try to imagine what the photographer is seeing..where is the light coming from, if I do this will that block any light..with all this in mind I am also thinking about the brief of the photoshoot..is it a romantic soft look? Or is it a bit rough around the edges...either way you have to consider that even looking scared, worried, angry...you have to look your best, and show of your best features.

If the shoot is to show off the clothing, in studio or on location, you have to think of what poses would show the clothes off best. You don’t want to be all hunched up and not showing all the clothing off...or any accessories that you may also have on too, and no matter where you are, you have to think about the lighting!
It is a long process and a long day..you have to keep your energy levels up. I always take something to drink and eat with me, so I will always have my energy. After the photoshoot is done, you will then have images to wait for, sometimes you may get them on the same day, sometimes it can be a month later, or in some cases you're brief may have been that you wont receive images for your portfolio, but instead it is being used for a campaign, advertisement etc, all this information is always given out before you turn up for the photoshoot (or should be anyway!).
Bruce Sutherland- Photographer

Being a model is amazing fun, and I have loved every moment of it, the ups, the downs and everything in between. If it is something you want to do, you must must must be thick skinned. The industry is very competitive, people always giving their opinion, giving you critique, and it is usually very bluntly. Remember you are going to be in the limelight, whether just locally, or globally! Most of all, remember to have fun, stay positive, and love what you do!! :)

Yves Saint Laurent - Rouge Pur Couture Vernis À Lèvres

Hey Beauties!

I got the  Rouge Pur Couture Vernis À Lèvres yesterday from House of Fraser because i had heard so much about them how they were an all in one product.
It is claimed that these are Stains, Lipstick and Gloss all in one and I have to agree with everyone i think i may have found a new favourite product. Knowing me i bought the one that was the most purple haha. Violet Edition No.1 is a deep plum with literally stains so much i had it on my hand last night seeing how it was and it is still there as the stain wont go away so if you have trouble with colours staying this could be for you.

When i first seen it i thought it was quite a small bottle and for YSL I thought it would be rather expensive but for the product quality and amount of pigmentation this product has I think its quite a good little deal as you only need a tiny bit for your whole lips. For this product I would suggest you use a lip brush because it is quite messy but for on the go its fine, just watch out because it does stain so if you get it outside your lips.....well you're stained.

The Rouge Pur Couture Vernis À Lèvres sell for £22.50 from YSL and comes with 6ml of product but due to high pigmentation and nature of the product I think its totally worth it.
You can also order them from the Yves Saint Laurent Beauty Site

Below is No.1 Violet Edition

What do you think of these? Have you tried them?

Photoshoot with Holly Rodgers and Ian Barclay

Hey Beauties! <3
I thought i would share another images from a photoshoot I did with Holly Rodgers and Ian Barclay who is an awesome photographer. I love this image because it is so soft and flowy and just really pretty.

This was done in Glasgow which was awesome, I love working with Holly so much as she is such a down to earth person and funny and when her mum comes to a shoot its always a laugh

For this image all i did a red smokey eye which was a lot of fun because it suited her so well i think it was so nice because of the colour top she was wearing

What do you think?

Makeup Atelier Paris Eyeshadow Palettes

Hey Beauties!

I have recently found out about these amazing eyeshadows, they are from Makeup Atelier Paris which is a French brand which originates from a School of Makeup.
I was sent a few things by Makeup Atelier Paris and i thought I would review them separately so you could see about them in depth, I have to say I am in love with them they are so pigmented and easy to blend.

T09 "Rose Violet Nacre"
This Palette has 5 gorgeous purple shades ranging from a deep plum to a pastel pink/purple. It is a mix of Matte and Pearl shades which blend like a dream and even more so when used with a cream base.
Each shadow comes with a net weight of 10g but looks they contain more shadow as they are bigger than MAC pans

T18 "Amazones"
This palette contains 5 gorgeous earthy-green tones which look gorgeous when used together. I have used this palette on a shoot recently and they were amazing they blend together like nothing else i love them!
they are beyond pigmented and the staying power is impressive, I would honestly say the formula of these eyeshadows is better than MAC

Overall i think these palettes are an undiscovered amazing thing Makeup Atelier Paris is a Brand from France but they launched in the UK in 2010 at London IMATS but have recently been trying to make a bigger push to get on to the UK Market as they are popular in Paris and France as they have a Makeup School as well as the Brand.
The palette are £25 each and are available from www.Makeupatelierparis.co.uk or from www.love-makeup.co.uk

What do you think of these?
I love them!
